About Jho
Johana Plazas, known by her pseudonym Jho, is a Colombian visual artist and muralist with extensive experience in community work. Her art focuses on highlighting wildlife, especially endangered species, giving them voice and presence as central figures in her murals. She has painted in countries such as Denmark, Mexico, Portugal, Colombia and UK. Now based in Slough, she actively contributes to the city’s cultural and social transformation as a member of the Viva Slough team.
“Lumi is more than an elephant sculpture—it reflects our inner journeys shaped by people and experiences. Inspired by the tale of Hope, Lumi begins in grey, symbolising past struggles. These marks remain not as wounds, but as integral parts of the story, reminders that pain, too, shapes who we become. The River Thames flows across its body, connecting Windsor and Slough. Windows in diverse architectural styles represent the cultures inhabiting these towns, each one a memory of someone Lumi has met. Lumi celebrates transformation, resilience, and the beauty of human connection.”
